Best of Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2014 Part I

// // 22 comments
It seems that less and less designer interested in making Couture, and some may say it is slowly going to an end. This I must agree, even the Couture master like Christian Lacroix went bankrupt, the struggle to finding clients, often the richest of the richs, are getting so hard. And there are some Couture lines are going downhill (this season: Valentino/ most obvious in my opinion). Funny thing is, Dolce & Gabbana kept their Alta Moda exclusively private for their clients, but the leaked photos show that it is completely disappointed (for example, what is this? couture cow girl?), and maybe that's the reason it's private.

But there are still gems, I know, Christian Dior by Raf Simons. I'm begin to think that Raf is more suitable for Dior than Galliano (I still love both!). From a Jil Sander genius, we thought he couldn't represent Dior because minimalism is in his blood, but look at what he did now:

You don't have to be very quirky to be Couture. Inspired by so many era of fashion (at least 6, I'm not very good and my knowledge is too small for the world, plus I'm not studying fashion design ಠ_ಠ), this collection is the reply of Raf to the world, bold, beautiful and varied. Look at how delicate the clothes feels, how they look so beautiful and fit, how every single knots and needles are perfect:

Now we can't not mention Giorgio Armani with his Privé line. Sir Armani is probably the only one of his generation that could still produce beautiful Couture while catching up with the world (imo Karl hast lost his magic I'd say since 2010). It's not brand new every collections, in fact, his collections often resembles each other, like repeat with different materials. But every pieces of clothing was done properly and perfectly. One thing that makes me love Giorgio Armani is his Couture designs are often come from sci-fi inspirations. Luxurious, sometimes magically dark, but no woman doesn't want to dress up in these dresses.

I especially love the make-up at this show. Daria Strokous opens and I fall in love with the spirit of the collection just by looking at her.

One of many controversial shows in my head would be Elie Saab. The clothes are worth your attention, look like they are made to be wearing by princesses and queens. But it's like a student with all grades in B for every subjects for years. Doesn't stand out, doesn't have the main inspiration source, just pretty/quirky clothes. It's good for red carpet too (but only if you have model-standard figure imo). I find it ok to look at every year but still wondering what's the point? Nevertheless, I still appreciate the fact that Elie Saab can keep its high perfomance almost every Couture collection.
